A beautiful picture of the Pyramids of Giza with the sun setting behind them.
The Pyramids of Giza, III Dynasty, 2680-2565 B.C. The largest belongs to King Khufu (Cheops). The middle pyramid belongs to his son, King Khafre (Chephren), and only looks bigger because it was built on higher ground. King Khafre could not, in deference to his father build a bigger pyramid so he found a compromise! the third pyramid is that of Kafre's son, Mankara (Mycerinus). The three small pyramids are those of Mankara's queens.
The biggest of the three pyramids. It required over two million large limestone blocks. It is a square, 756 feet on each side. It is 481 feet high.

The Khafre pyramid from the ground.
The Sakkara (step) pyramid of King Zoser, III Dynasty, 2780-2680 B.C. This pyramid was built by Inhotep who was the king's chancellor, high priest, and architect. This is the first pyramid built and the first building made of stone.
The Sakkara (step) pyramid. Those are not specs on the bottom, those are people! Built in six "steps", it is 204 feet tall. The original limestone facade is gone. King Zoser's burial chamber is ninety feet under the base of the pyramid.
